Reviews
Many readers claim that this fantasy novel is the best, or at least one of the best, they have ever encountered. It is filled with characters rich with a variety of bravery, determination, friendliness, evilness, wit, and sarcasm.
“It’s not your typical fantasy,” said avid reader, Staci Olney, 15. “You never expect what is going to happen next.”
Olney was not the only one enjoying this novel. Jan Arnold, 70, of Coldwater stayed up all night, captivated by the work of Carpenter.
“Outstanding,” said Arnold. “This author has such an imagination, the wording, the storyline, and the imagery are absolutely amazing. This book could be made into a great movie.”
Lance, a book reviewer from Ohio was very impressed.
“I have found it very difficult to set down a book, or walk out of a movie theater being quite satisfied.” Lance said. “Add to that the fact that I find fantasy stories comprising of elves, dragons, and brave knights in shining armor a bit over done and dull, Susan Carpenter’s: Curse of the Lyrestone had some very substantial hurtles to overcome if I was to walk away happy. Almost instantly if found a passion sewn into the pages of the Curse of the Lyrestone. A passion that can only reflect the author’s love for writing, her determination, and a very clear and ever present devotion to take contemporary fantasy and mold it into something new and enchanting. The Curse of the Lyrestone, does, in every regard, do this that. Each character you meet is surprisingly complex while surprisingly simple at the same time. Finding relation with the characters at any given time was quite easy. Add to that the fact that Carpenter has written this book very visually, the pages practically melt away into a world that you can smell and touch. The Curse of the Lyrestone is very much a character driven story as easily as it is situational. The main character of the story is a masterstroke of emotion and grace. Every last chasm of this book is wonderfully colored, and I found myself stunned how quickly it turned from an enchanting story of fantasy to a real page-turner, having still maintained the surreal qualities that make any true adventure through far-off lands extraordinarily well. Susan Carpenter has taken the most basic concepts of fantasy and redesigned them in a very fresh, unique way. She’s succeeded in creating a complex storyline, with complex characters, and organized it into a ‘fun to read’ and compelling adventure that had me wanting more after the first page.”
